If you need to make sure your clients are staying safe and healthy at home, our senior check in service can help you do that.
A senior check in service is perfect for older adults who just want a little extra support on a regular basis. Or, for busy families across town or across the country, who could use a little peace of mind knowing someone is looking in on their parent.
One of the most stressful situations we can ever be in is when we can’t be there to help someone we love. Whether it is an older parent or a spouse aging in place, not having someone there to care for them just in case they need it is unnerving.
That is the main reason we created our check in service for elderly clients. So you can have a little peace of mind knowing you’ve got someone here to help you take care of them.
What is the senior check in service?
Our senior check in service helps us determine how your parent is doing. We take a very holistic approach to ensure their health and happiness, by evaluating not only health concerns, but also home safety, and emotional and spiritual concerns.
These check ins are an effective way to also help evaluate whether the community resources that have been set up are working for them.
A simple question of “How are you?” can lead to a lengthy conversation with a lot of information and feedback. Or, a short response with no information. Our job is to move forward with “investigating”, so more detailed information can be attained without insulting or being to pushy with our clients.
Why check-ins are important
Check ins are an essential part of the puzzle in helping adult children relieve the stress associated with supporting their parents. And, it allows us to help our clients age in place.
It is important to see how they are adapting to any changes and to the new resources that have been introduced into their home and daily lives. And, just as important, to spend time with them, while listening to their concerns.
Check ins can circumvent problems or issues before they intensify to not being manageable. Which, can include situations that lead to physical danger or permanent health problems.
Our wellness checks for elderly parents also gives families peace of mind that someone is watching out for their parent.
How the senior check in service for seniors works
After we have a short phone call or meeting about it, we can discuss the scheduling the check in services for seniors.
The first part of our check in service are phone calls. We call to see how they are doing, while asking questions to determine if there are any needs or situations that are a concern for them. (And, you need to be aware of.)
These calls also serve as a telephone reassurance service, where they are getting contact with a person whom they know cares about their well-being.
The other part of the service is in-person visits. We go to your parent’s home, whether that is a house, apartment, condo, or even assisted living or nursing home, to check on them. During our visit
Check ins will occur in the client’s home and/or by phone. Though, we can schedule the check in service at any point it is needed.
Typically, we find weekly, with two phone calls and two in-person visits a month total, is a good place to start. Bi-weekly is an option for older adults who may not need as much support.
Normally, we allow up to 30 minutes for a phone calls and in-person visits. (Though, in-person requires additional for travel time.)
Why not a daily calling service?
Our phone calls are not typically a daily calling service. Though, we could certainly make arrangements for that, as they are customized to you and your parent’s needs.
The calls are similar to the “are you OK” service, in that we regularly call to check on your loved one. However, the advantage to our senior check in service is that we don’t do automated calls. A human being calls you or your parent, and we’ll chat with you for a while.
Please be aware that most companies providing a daily calling service, or a senior check-in app are providing an automated service. In our opinion, the services and apps are not best for older adults who need regular human contact, as well as someone to be able to discover any things going on you may not be aware of.
